KAEOS - Wolves For The Throat - Ravens For The Eyes DEMO

A német atmoszférikus black metal csapat - F. (gitár), M. (basszusgitár, ének), T. (dob, ének) – kétéves lesz az idén. Egy tehetségesnek tűnő zenekar első lépése ez, nem rossz, de nem is jó. Van hová fejlődni, és van még mit az úton megtalálni, felfedezni. Egy kis türelemmel, és több munkával sokkal korrektebb anyagot adhattak volna ki a kezük közül a fiúk.

A leginkább egy jól sikerült próbatermi hangzásra hasonlító lemez első trackje az I. Középtempós szám, alig kihallani valamit, a dobból például szinte csak a kísérő cin hangjait, a gitár is nagyon tompán ontja magából a sötétséget. Ez bizony elég gyenge így, old-school black metal ide vagy oda…
A The Grinding Gears Of Time kásásan megszólaló gitárral indít, majd jön a dob és a basszusgitár, és a károgós ének monoton, dinamikátlan elegye. Nem lenne rossz, de dolgozni kellett volna, a hangzás nem elég magában, hogy jól szóljon egy nóta.
A Wolves For The Throat már jobban szól, bár a dob nagyon a háttérben, és a gitár lehetne hangosabb. Itt már ötletes témák is felbukkannak, ígéretes az ének is, de a dinamikai hiány itt is felbukkan, nem is szólva a borzalmasan sablonos refréntémáról.

A záró Ravens For The Eyes sem javul hangzás szempontjából, ami zavaró. Egyrészt nem lehet a témákat rendesen kihallani, ettől persze nyílván más megítélés alá kerül a szám szerkezete. Nem szólna ez sem rosszul, persze nem is egy úttörő játék, de van benne erő, és némi egyéni íz.
Jobban oda kellene figyelni a keverésre, és a pontosságra, ez a fejlődés záloga. Mert így nem igazán jó a kiállása a korrekt borító ellenére sem. Bocs, de csak hat a pont, mert szólhatna jobban is, a játékból ítélve.

ENGLISH VERSION:

This German atmospheric black metal act, consisting of F. (guitar), M. (bass, vocals) and T. (drums), will be two years old this year. It’s the first step of a talented band, not bad but it’s neither good. There’re things to be improved, something to discover and find on their way. With a bit more patience and work they could have released a much better stuff.
The first track of the album, having a sort of rehearsal sound, is titled I. It’s a mid-paced one, and is hardly audible; only the cymbals can be heard of the drums, and the guitar sound is also rather muffled in creating the darkness. Okay, it’s oldschool black metal but it’s rather weak...
The Grinding Gears Of Time opens with an overly distorted guitar, then come the drums and bass, and the monotonous mix of croaking vocals without dynamics. It wouldn’t be bad but they should have worked more on it, because the production is not enough for the track to sound good.
Wolves For The Throat sounds better though the drums are rather in the background and the guitar could also be louder. They have here some creative ideas and the vocal is also promising but the lack of dynamics is also present not to mention the cliché chorus.

Neither the closing Ravens For The Eyes is any better regarding the sound which is disturbing. On one hand, the themes cannot be heard properly. Despite of this, of course, the structure of the track is also judged. The sound would be okay anyway (okay it’s not a pioneering thing either) but it has power in it and some unique taste.
They should put more emphasis on the mixing and precision, these are the keys of progression. Because it’s not that great despite the great cover artwork. Sorry but it’s only 6 out of 10 due to the sound taking into consideration their play.
